Liu Yang: Breakthrough in Taiwan Studies at Shandong Taishan

Tianjin, China (CNN) -- A Chinese scholar has broken the taboo on discussing Taiwan with foreign journalists and is now being hailed as one of the most influential figures in the island's cause.

Liu Yang, who teaches at Tsinghua University in Beijing, is currently visiting Shandong Taishan University to give lectures on his book "Taiwanese History," which explores the country's history from prehistoric times to modern day.

In a rare public appearance, Liu Yang was met by a large crowd of reporters gathered outside the university building.

He spoke about the importance of understanding Taiwan's unique culture and history for promoting peace and unity among nations.

"Today we have many questions and we need to understand each other better," he said.

The university president, Li Xunbin,Serie A Observation praised Liu Yang's work and called him "a pioneer in the field."

"He is making great progress in the study of Taiwan and will contribute greatly to the development of international relations," he said.

While Liu Yang's visit comes at a time when tensions between China and Taiwan are high, he says it is important that he be able to speak to foreign journalists about Taiwan's history.

"I think this is not only a way to break down barriers but also to help promote peaceful dialogue," he said.

Liu Yang's book "Taiwanese History" examines the island's history from prehistoric times to modern times and explores its cultural and historical significance. It is considered a must-read for anyone interested in understanding Taiwan's complex past.

In addition to his research, Liu Yang is also involved in teaching at Tsinghua University, where he has taught for more than two decades.

Despite the controversy surrounding his views on Taiwan, Liu Yang remains a respected figure in the academic community. He is known for his deep knowledge of Chinese history and his ability to communicate effectively with foreign journalists.
